Rod thermostats with microswitch operate on the principle of rod expansion. A temperature change produces a change in the length of the stem. This change is transmitted through a low-expansion rod inside the stem to a mechanism with a microswitch in the thermostat head. Rod thermostats in the STMA series are used, for example, in HVAC applications.
Rod thermostats have the advantage that they are largely unaffected by excess temperatures, irrespective of the range (max. +345C), have a fast response (time constant 8 sec) and negligible ambient temperature error at the thermostat head.
The thermostats have a fail-safe action (heating switches off) if the stem is damaged or bent.

The flue gas temperature monitor is used for monitoring flue gas temperatures of solid-fuel boilers in dual operation with oil-heated boilers. It is also employed for the interlocking of ventilation systems that cause a vacuum in conjunction with tiled ovens and fireplaces.
The flue gas temperature monitor operates on the principle of rod expansion. The immersion tube and the metal rod mounted inside have different expansion coefficients, so that changes in temperature produce differences in length.
These act through a transmission mechanism on a microswitch which is actuated above a set temperature limit. After the immersion tube has cooled down by about 10 to 30 C, the microswitch is reset. In the event of an immersion tube break, the circuit remains permanently open.

The TE-1 electronic thermostat is a temperature controller with ON/OFF action, in a housing for DIN rail or wall mounting. The relay at the controller output switches in accordance with the temperature at the probe (process value x) and the value that has been selected as the setpoint (w).
The setpoint is selected as an analog value on a scale, by means of a knob on the front of the controller. The knob is fitted with an adjustable stop for range restriction or limitation. An adjustable switching differential is a standard feature, as is zero-point adjustment.
Suitable probes that may be connected are platinum resistance sensors with a positive temperature coefficient to EN 60584 (Pt100) in 2-wire or 3-wire circuit, or thermocouples (NiCr-Ni) to EN 60584.
